About Avalanche
Avalanche is a smart-contract platform built for fast finality and for hosting many custom networks, called subnets, alongside its main chains. AVAX is the native asset, used for fees, staking and creating new subnets.
How Avalanche Works
The platform runs three built-in chains with different jobs: one for exchanging assets, one for smart contracts compatible with Ethereum tooling, and one for coordinating validators and subnets. Its consensus mechanism reaches finality in around a second by having validators repeatedly sample each other's opinions rather than voting in rounds.
The History of Avalanche
Developed by Ava Labs under Emin Gün Sirer, a Cornell computer scientist, Avalanche launched its main network in 2020. Subnets have since been used by gaming projects, institutions and enterprises that want a dedicated chain with their own rules while remaining connected to the wider network.
What AVAX Is Used For
AVAX pays transaction fees, which are burned rather than paid to validators, and is staked to secure the network. Launching a subnet requires validators to stake AVAX, tying demand for the asset to growth in the number of custom chains.

Why buy Avalanche with YouHodler? +
YouHodler combines advanced security and encryption with a simple way to buy and sell AVAX, fast crypto transactions, support for multiple fiat currencies, and a platform that works for newcomers and experienced traders alike.
Is Avalanche a good investment? +
Avalanche offers sub-second finality, a fee-burn mechanism and a subnet model that appeals to institutions wanting their own chain. It competes in a crowded field of fast Ethereum-compatible networks, and subnet adoption has been uneven. AVAX is volatile — research it before investing.
Can I buy Avalanche today and sell it tomorrow? +
Yes. YouHodler supports selling as well as buying, so you can acquire AVAX and later exchange it for fiat currencies such as USD or EUR. Transactions settle quickly, major fiat currencies are supported, and withdrawals go out by bank transfer.
Is it safe to buy Avalanche? +
Buying AVAX is generally safe on a reliable platform like YouHodler, which applies data encryption, identity verification and multi-layer account protection. The asset itself stays highly volatile, so prices can move sharply over short periods.
How do I convert Avalanche to cash? +
Connect a bank account, debit card or credit card to your YouHodler profile, exchange your AVAX for a fiat currency such as USD or EUR, then withdraw the balance straight to your bank.
How much is $100 worth of Avalanche right now? +
That depends on the live AVAX price, which moves constantly. Use the price chart on this page to see the current rate and work out exactly how much AVAX $100 buys at this moment.
