About Cosmos
Cosmos is a network of independent, interoperable blockchains rather than a single chain. Its tooling lets developers launch purpose-built chains that can still communicate with one another. ATOM is the native asset of the Cosmos Hub, the network's first and central chain.
How Cosmos Works
Chains are built with the Cosmos SDK and secured by the Tendermint consensus engine, which delivers fast finality. The Inter-Blockchain Communication protocol lets these sovereign chains pass tokens and messages to each other directly, without a trusted bridge. Each chain keeps its own validators and governance.
The History of Cosmos
Proposed in 2016 by Jae Kwon and Ethan Buchman, Cosmos launched its Hub in 2019 and activated IBC in 2021. Its software now underpins a large number of independent networks, several of which are among the better-known chains in the sector.
What ATOM Is Used For
ATOM secures the Cosmos Hub through staking, with delegators sharing validator rewards, and carries governance rights over the Hub's direction. It is also used within Hub services such as its interchain security offering, where other chains rent security from it.

Why buy Cosmos with YouHodler? +
YouHodler combines advanced security and encryption with a simple way to buy and sell ATOM, fast crypto transactions, support for multiple fiat currencies, and a platform that works for newcomers and experienced traders alike.
Is Cosmos a good investment? +
Cosmos technology is widely adopted — many major chains are built on it — and IBC is a working interoperability standard. ATOM itself captures only part of that success, since the chains built with Cosmos tooling are sovereign and use their own tokens. ATOM is volatile, so research how value accrues to the Hub before investing.
Can I buy Cosmos today and sell it tomorrow? +
Yes. YouHodler supports selling as well as buying, so you can acquire ATOM and later exchange it for fiat currencies such as USD or EUR. Transactions settle quickly, major fiat currencies are supported, and withdrawals go out by bank transfer.
Is it safe to buy Cosmos? +
Buying ATOM is generally safe on a reliable platform like YouHodler, which applies data encryption, identity verification and multi-layer account protection. The asset itself stays highly volatile, so prices can move sharply over short periods.
How do I convert Cosmos to cash? +
Connect a bank account, debit card or credit card to your YouHodler profile, exchange your ATOM for a fiat currency such as USD or EUR, then withdraw the balance straight to your bank.
How much is $100 worth of Cosmos right now? +
That depends on the live ATOM price, which moves constantly. Use the price chart on this page to see the current rate and work out exactly how much ATOM $100 buys at this moment.
