About NEAR Protocol
NEAR Protocol is a proof-of-stake blockchain focused on usability and scale, with human-readable account names and a sharding design that splits the network's workload. NEAR is the native asset used for fees, staking and storage.
How NEAR Works
NEAR shards its state and processing so that capacity grows as more validators join, rather than every node handling every transaction. Accounts use readable names instead of long hex strings, and applications can pay users' gas costs, which removes a common obstacle for newcomers. Transactions finalise in a couple of seconds.
The History of NEAR
Founded in 2018 by Alexander Skidanov and Illia Polosukhin — the latter a co-author of the transformer paper that underpins modern AI — NEAR launched its main network in 2020. The project has more recently positioned itself around AI and chain-abstraction tooling that lets one account operate across several blockchains.
What NEAR Is Used For
NEAR pays transaction fees, a portion of which is burned, and is staked by validators and delegators to secure the network. It also covers on-chain storage costs and is the base asset for applications built on the protocol.

Why buy NEAR Protocol with YouHodler? +
YouHodler combines advanced security and encryption with a simple way to buy and sell NEAR, fast crypto transactions, support for multiple fiat currencies, and a platform that works for newcomers and experienced traders alike.
Is NEAR Protocol a good investment? +
NEAR has strong engineering credentials, a genuinely friendlier account model and an active push into AI-adjacent use cases. It faces the same crowded competition as every smart-contract platform, and its application ecosystem is smaller than the largest chains. NEAR is volatile — research it before investing.
Can I buy NEAR Protocol today and sell it tomorrow? +
Yes. YouHodler supports selling as well as buying, so you can acquire NEAR and later exchange it for fiat currencies such as USD or EUR. Transactions settle quickly, major fiat currencies are supported, and withdrawals go out by bank transfer.
Is it safe to buy NEAR Protocol? +
Buying NEAR is generally safe on a reliable platform like YouHodler, which applies data encryption, identity verification and multi-layer account protection. The asset itself stays highly volatile, so prices can move sharply over short periods.
How do I convert NEAR Protocol to cash? +
Connect a bank account, debit card or credit card to your YouHodler profile, exchange your NEAR for a fiat currency such as USD or EUR, then withdraw the balance straight to your bank.
How much is $100 worth of NEAR Protocol right now? +
That depends on the live NEAR price, which moves constantly. Use the price chart on this page to see the current rate and work out exactly how much NEAR $100 buys at this moment.
